Sad to report that one of the two raccoons at my fave local animal park has died (of old age... he had a good, long life). I have to wonder if his buddy misses him, in his own way.

Well, he did have a long and (so I like to think) pleasant life. I will miss seeing him snoozing away in his hammock.

if there is any way that any animal so stubbornly tenacious in the face of urban sprawl can be said to have left this world in a good way, it's by old age. i would be willing to wager that only a tiny fraction of them in the wild make their exit in that way.
