I'm not the best with drawing robots, but I wanted to at least make a fully robotic character, thus Oni-Oni was created! Both heads have two completely different personalities. Happy Oni is friendly, enthusiastic, and a little naive. Mad/Sad Oni is pessimistic, blunt, rudely sarcastic, and terrifyingly intelligent (and lowkey a major tsundere).
Despite their polar opposites, they have no problems controlling one body, but bickering over what type of cake is better is fairly common.

No, they don't need to eat, but they like to pretend they can, or at least Happy Oni does. Oni-Oni's programmer is unknown, but he was made on a different planet for war purposes, though he has amnesia, so he can't remember where he's from or his purpose. And I figured him having a male voice would be a pretty obvious reason he considers himself a male, but he also goes by "they" as well.
Actually it could, the files containing his memories were heavily damaged, not erased, so it is possible for him to either re-download them with help, or catalog anything that he believes is familiar. Unfortunately, nothing around them is familiar, so until they have outside help, they won't be able to remember. But keep them away from ANYTHING that they think is out of place or "shouldn't belong."
In order to download them, he'd half to allow someone, with some knowledge of technology, to hack into his mainframe (his "brain") and re-download them manually. Files can be damaged by taking severe damage to both heads, and it's called damaging since the only way to erase files is also by going into his mainframe. It's the equivalent of brain damage, but in his case, it can be fixed.
That's right, if Oni-Oni had the same mainframe or shared one, they'd have the same personality. They were programmed with two intentionally, though when in highly stressful situations, or in war, they'll both sync up, and they'll talk at the same time with the same harsh tone. Their optics will also change from white to red(Happy Oni) and green(Sad Oni)
I have no idea what you mean by an external one, and I fail to see how it makes less sense. His two mainframes are his two "brains." He can't recover the damaged files because 1). He doesn't know how due to not remembering and 2). both heads have to be powered off in order to recover the files since both heads were damaged. If only one head had damaged files, the other could fix it. There isn't an external anything.
Powering off would just be him going to sleep. Regaining his files is a long process that can only be done with assistance. His files are only called files, but in reality they contain his memories, and some functions that were lost when he crashed, they're not like computer or phone files. It's not so much as fixing than re-downloading and connecting matching parts.
