Our Mighty and Eternal Emperor decrees: LET THE OCTOBER FEST BEGIIIIIIIIIIN!
skekSo the Emperor, the ruthless leader of the Skeksis, one of the Lords of the Crystal and Tyrant Emperor of Planet Thra. Born of the botch division of the urSkeks, his counterpart was urSu the Master.
When the Skeksis came to be, it was skekSo who rejected Aughra's pleads to reunite with the runaway Mystics and in response cracked Crystal of Truth, losing a shard of it for One Thousand Thrine. As the Skeksis settle in and the power structure was establish, he came on top as Emperor of the Skeksis, much to the rejection of some of his Heretical detractors, namely skekShod, who was severely beaten with the Power staff. Afterwards, he began to plot on how to use the Makrak Raids to convince the Gelflings to willingly submit themselves to their will, having skekVar sent as envoy, but despite the plan been somewhat tarnished by the intervention of the Mystics, the Skeksis were accepted as part of the Council, thus giving birth to the Alliance of the Crystal. This alliance would segregate the Gelfling Race into 7 Clans, that would serve the Skeksis as it Servants and Guards, via a Tithe system.
For much of his Reign, skekSo ruled as (or played as) a benevolent and lively ruler at first: hosting various festivities which he presided and where his voice was the loudest over the crowd, winning every single competition. However, overtime, he and his comrades would become complacent in their lifestyle, where everything was provided to them to regardless of the burden and suffering over his subjects. At some point during he discovered the Darkening below the catacombs, and began to experiment upon it in secret from the others seeing uses to its power, which would damage his body.
Despite playing the role of a strong ruler and unshaken too well, and his belief that he and the others are Eternal, skekSo secretly held a deep fear of his own mortality, far more than the other Skeksis. It would be this fear that would played a pivotal role in things to come...
When the Crystal began to fail, skekTek (under pressure from skekSo and suggestions of skekSil) discovered a new way to prolong the Skeksis lives via the Life Essence of the Gelfling, whose close connection to Thra was enriching, and after drinking it, the Emperor developed a strong addiction to its taste demanding more essence: however, as the Skeksis began to drain more and more Gelfling, the Darkening grew, as their actions caused an imbalance where the Crystal Itself could not heal. This would spell the End of the Crystal Alliance, as their actions were witness by one of the Guards, Rian from the Stonewood Clan, whose love interest, Mera, became the first victim of the draining. He would later reveal the truth of the Darkening to skekVar, by then his new acting Counsel, where he explain his body was been corrupted the more exposure he got to it, thus breaking down.
Despite all attempts to capture Rian and to prevent the truth from coming out at the cost of the lives of Captain Ordon and the All Maudra, and the Arathim having sided with the Gelfling, Rian succeeded in warning his entire Race of the Skeksis true nature having found the Dual Glaive, and lightning the Fires of Resistance. With the situation now gone out of his control, specially after the (first) death of skekMal, he and the other Skeksis, minus the Scientist, suited up for war and headed towards Stone-in-the-Wood.
This would be known as the Second Battle of Stone-in-the-Wood, which would end in disaster for the Skeksis, with the other Clans and Arathim joining and leading to the deaths of the General, the Hunter and the Collector. The Skeksis retreated to the castle where the Scientist presented the Garthim, the new Warrior for the Skeksis. Once the Garthim were mass produced, skekSo order the new General, skekUng, to unleashed the wrath of the Skeksis upon every Gelfling on Thra, thus beginning the Garthim War. At some point, growing the ever more paranoid, skekSo decreed that only the Emperor could drink the essence. Later the Skeksis became aware of the Gelfling Prophesy, and skekSo ordered their extermination, with Jen and Kira escaping (as well small band of other survivors, based on the events in the Comic sequel Power of the Dark Crystal).
It would be this decree, along his experiments on the Darkening, that would seal skekSo's fate: having destroy the one thing that slow his physical deterioration, an aging skekSo became the ever more frail he could no longer be part of the Crystal Ceremonies. Darkening Poisoning, as well the decision of urSu to chose death over the Mystics losing their connection with their Skeksis counterparts, had him bed ridden in constant sickness. By the tail end of his life, skekSo was a shadow of his former self: Paranoid, Hateful, Sick, Weak and speaking with a raspy wheezing voice.
After nearly 1000 Thrine, he died surrounded by the other members of the Council, who all awaited his death, just days before the 3rd Great Conjunction that would had made them truly Eternal and free of their connection with their Mystic Counterparts. He was succeeded by skekUng, whose reign would only last a few days, before Jen achieve the very Goal skekSo sought to avoid: the Healing of the Crystal and the rebirth of the urSkeks.
