This is something I was throwing together earlier today while thinking about Anubis and how it must feel to look over the same sea of writhing dead everyday. Every night, for eternity... anyway, the other character is Lion, and a Messenger of God. Other than that, he has no name or anything else defining about him. Anubis is copyright, uh... Himself. Period. Will probably be moved to scraps after awhile. Enjoy.
***Deep inside the roaring flames
There blink the eyes of fate
Endless waves of fading souls
These all reside
Within the Jackal’s Eyes
Somewhere within the sea of the lost
A single cry is heard
Outside of the gates a stranger hails
And all eyes turn toward the sound
A man, more animal than not
Walks across the plains
A place he should not be able to enter
But here he stands
Locked inside the Jackal Eyes
The Guardian regards him with a nod
This is a place that he keeps as his own
An ocean filled with those who have passed and have no place to go
This is their home beyond all homes
Walls are not needed to keep these unfortunates here
Dante’s world was far more kind
For in this place, all who are here have no name
And no story to tell
Angels don’t fly here
Demons can’t crawl here
This is the endlessness beyond the Veil
The place where time stops and all that is
Is Silence.
This is the home of the Jackal
And his eyes survey his home with thoughtful care
The stranger walks nearer, a hint of fear playing on a feline face
For his is a son of Leo
But here, in this place, his star shines not
The cat motions to the sepulcher beyond
He is here on a mission for the Elder Gods
To find a soul, and return it above
Jackal Eyes regard the feline, and the hook of the Shepard appears
Clawed canine feet cross the distance at a metered pace
This is not the first time such a request has been made
And it wouldn’t be the last
He blows air out of his muzzle
His massive ears twitching in the resulting steam***
Aaaannnd… I’m all out of steam on this one. It’s so hard to write a good poem anymore! So let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
