Yaklhiy folklore
Ror'ke Ak'sis, one of the deities of their world, is said to replace the local star with the infamous Umbral Star every few hundreds of calendar cycles. The Umbral Star is claimed to be a tool used to gather strong essences around the world. When asked about the meaning behind strong essence, maturity of the creatures around the world is brought forward, claiming it left children behind to fend for themselves. Those who speak of it say the victims are to be enthralled by the Umbral star and find a pitch black orb in the sky as flesh burns away and bones turn to ashes while the essence of the afflicted is being sucked out into the star. This is said to be a reset to the equilibrium of powers in the world to avoid instability and chaos. The gathered essence is assumed to be used by Ror'ke Ak'sis to rebalance worlds beyond their own.
So I was looking at some of the old role-play I used to do back in the days when I was with a group and one of the folklore we had running was that of the legend of the Umbral Star.
I decided I wanted to have a picture done about it and the darkness of commission is on purpose. I really love how this one came out.
You can see the bodies and the essence of other people in the background being pulled out for the purpose of this one. It is only folklore so it doesn't really happen in their world.
Beliefs are what spawns these kind of folklores and some can be quite interesting if you know the origins.
