So according to Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, sub-machine guns such as the Skorpion deal better or equal damage, or IRL terms have more or better stopping power, than assault rifles, which for us guys who don't know guns well, I'll say it simply: SMGs have far less stopping power than assault rifles, meaning in games they should deal far less damage. Now, here's munitions expert
Kardas to put into scientific terms:
Kardas - submachine guns and machine pistols use pistol-caliber ammo, which is typically low-velocity. Assault rifles use intermediate ammo, which is scaled-down rifle ammo, and has a tremendous increase in velocity (and thus accuracy, range, stopping power, and penetration) over pistol-caliber.
The AUG is chambered for 5.56 NATO (5.56 x 45 mm) which, while not the most impressive intermediate round is a far sight better than any pistol munition (even the legendary .44 magnum can't really stack up against a 5.56). The Skorpion is chambered for .32 ACP (7.65 x 17), the primary advantage of .32 is that it has extremely low recoil but better stopping power than .22 LR; even compared to other pistol-caliber ammo a .32 is fairly anemic.
And yet, for some reason, in R6V2, the Skorpion is one of the best weapons in the game, and appears to deal slightly better damage than the AUG (and slightly less damage than the 552, which makes no sense at all since the AUG and 552 use the same damn bullets)
According to Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, Lower velocity rounds are stronger than high velocity rounds.

For anyone reading this who plays R6V2; play around with weapons and compare them instead of gravitating toward the highest bars. The weapon statistics that the game provides are fairly meaningless and very misleading
Also, the laser actually reduces your accuracy while standing still; its only use is to provide an aiming point while running, meaning your accuracy will be shit anyway. Use the reflex sight instead.
