Based on the discovery of a yet-unidentified species of large crocodile in the Woodbine formation in Arlington, Texas, in the summer of 2009.
The bottom of the Woodbine formation marks the boundary of the Lower and Upper Cretaceous strata in Texas. At the top of the Woodbine, just below where it's covered by the Eagle Ford marine shale, a river delta environment is preserved. Dinosaurs, crocodiles, gharials, lungfish, turtles, and sharks lived and died in the brown estuarine waters.

Why H.P. Lovecraft is in tags here?-D
Mr. Lovecraft is the first person I know of to popularize the depths of geologic time. Others had described it before, but he gave it a flavor. Deep, dark, green, black, filled with our own amphibian great-grandparents.
Love them dark, sparkly rocks...komatiites...greenstones...the works.
