Now we're moving on to the third main protagonist, Keni'chi! My friends have taken to calling Keni "Ghosty Boi" since he spends half of his time in Book 1 as a disembodied soul.
Unlike Solaris and Pamu, Keni's a resident of the 21st century. He gets completely different fashion and a whole different look to him.
In previous drafts of the story, Keni's fur was this odd blue hue without much reason at all. In this draft, however, the fact that he's this odd blue color actually has some role in his story and set-up as a character! It's not fully explained why Keni is specifically blue, but it is greatly hinted that he has very recent monster ancestry. Sentient monsters in the world of TCotC come from a different world and are often accented with very bright colors, so the blue color of Keni's fur is like a giant blinking neon sign of "hey, my dad/mom/grandfather/grandmother/etc. was a monster!"
Also significantly, Keni has a lot of human blood in him too. The thing about the creatures from the monster world is that they're capable of crossbreeding with almost any species. All modern sapients are actually the result of human-monster crossbreeding; this is why normal sapients can also crossbreed with humans -- they're technically just a subspecies of human. Keni here is an example of a sapient having both human and monster ancestry relatively recently in his bloodline. Keni officially calls himself a "wolf," when in actuality he's really anything but.
I also figured I'd toss in Keni's final look in the story, as he does look like the "Final" image for all of Act 3. Most of Keni's other forms at that point in the story would be major spoilers, though, so I'm going to hang onto them and not toss them at you.
So, whaddya think?
