The third entry in my ongoing series of Christian hymns done in 8-bit style. As per request of
apollomerriwether, I present one of my new favorites. This was a lot of fun to do; it's in 6/8 (or 4/4 with a swing), perfect for that incessant schaffel beat that I used in "Morrison's Folly".
For your convenience, here are the lyrics (by Samuel Trevor Francis):
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love
Leading onward, leading homeward to Thy glorious rest above!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How He watches o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
How for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best!
’Tis an ocean full of blessing, ’tis a haven giving rest!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis a heaven of heavens to me;
And it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee!

lol. Not to insult your personal taste, but... I think the biggest pet peeve I had/have with Christian video games (I have this same pet peeve with "kids' games") are that the developers seem to be under the impression that a Christian video game's only objective is to have the Bible in it somehow. If it sucks, well... blame it on intolerance! Lots of people think the Bible is boring! This game is only awful because the customers don't dig Christian values! That's the ticket! Go Wisdom Tree!
It's kind of insulting as a Christian to think that most entertainment producers think that I only need a Christian theme to think something is worthwhile, and otherwise every other aspect of a book/game/movie/music/whatever will fly under my radar because I'll be too busy being enamored by the fact that "IT'S CHRISTIAN! Who cares if it's as watchable as a 1960's public service announcement or as playable as Dungeons and Dragons with no dice (I don't care if you know how to play without dice, you are in violation of the third Law of Garfield and will be visited shortly by the Tabletop Games Police)."
Bands like DC Talk and Switchfoot showed us Christian music could be awesome, shows like VeggieTales and movies like Fireproof showed us Christian video can be intelligently funny and deeply enriching, and games like... games like... uh...
Oh shoot.

JEEZE! Dude Calm down Bro! *takes away the espresso and backs away slowly* I can understand your point but, All I said was as a child I loved those games and always will. I didn't ask for rant on the Christian entertainment industry. I know its made some real stinkers in the past and these games aren't top notch. But To me the Wisdom tree games were unique as I had never seen anything like them before. I enjoyed playing them and I'm glad wisdom tree made the attempt at least they tried,and I hope God rewards them for it.(All you can do is try it doesn't have to be perfect just made with love.) I was locked up in a hospital for 3 years on and off and really didn't have a wide variety of games to play. If I had an N.E.S. I would play them for nostalgia value and love for all old school video games. I have a suggestion, How about instead of Just talking and ranting about it you put that energy to better use and do something about it? Have you ever tried to make a better Christian video game? One that you would feel is good and worthwhile? I'd really love to play it I bet it really would be cool, entertaining, and make a lot of people very happy! I'm sure programming an 8-bit game would be easy and fun to learn and do. ^__^ Heck I should learn I bet I'd have a blast as well! I challenge you Mr. Merriwether to put your money where your mouth is so to speak. You wanna have a contest and see if we can learn programming (if you don't know already, I myself do not) and try to make some better 8-bit Christian games?
Sorry for the rant! D: This is just an area that I feel quite strongly about, and am in the process of putting my money where my mouth is (I'm going to college for a Game Design degree), and I've got some ideas that should knock your socks off. Hopefully.
Unfortunately they won't be 8-bit games. That ship has (mostly) sailed. But they should be worthwhile. Hopefully.

I wanna play the games you make!*dances* ^__^ Oh and Haha! I'm not wearing socks! Can I hear your ideas anyway? I promise I'll buy socks! What Kind of games? Action, RPG, Fantasy? Yeah 8-bit games need to make a come back TTwTT So do 16 bit ones! Oh right...*hands you back your espresso* ^__^
Hey Bud *HUGS* I'd also Like to humbly apologize to you, I've been worried and bothered about my choice of words and feel I may have come off sounding like a jerk and it's been bugging/haunting me all day TTwTT *hugs* I've had a week long case of the stupids Uhg and I shouldn't have been all RAWR RAWR RAWR at the end and challenged you or said put your money where your mouth is. I feel bad about that It sounds really Jerkish TTwTT....don't know what's wrong with me it's like a week long full moon and it's only Wednesday. I've just been off lately and I want to apologize. I tend to over react to stuff TTwTT
Speaking of game Idea's!! I have one of a game where you play as Bowser to first conquer the mushroom kingdom then after you do that Mario comes in and you play as him to save it and then at the end you choose to play as Bowser or Mario to decide who wins determining the ending movie and scenario. I'd love to make it as a 16-bit game in a super Nintendo like style Like super Mario world but better,darker and with 83.6% more Bowser Koopa goodness! ^__^ Maybe it could even have 24 bit graphics (or was it 32?) like Super Metroid SQUEE ^__^ *Sighs wistfully in a nostalgia haze* Maybe someday I'll plan it out and make it ^__^ Cause Bowser rocks and he needs his own game! What was your favorite game on the Super NES?
