"Be careful now, sugar." Eliza shouted at him down below. "The rocks here can be treacherous, keep an eye on where you put your weight."
But it wasn't the friable ground which posed the most threat to Salvador as just as soon as he was able to get a stable footing he lost it, swept away by a sudden gust of wind. He grabbed at some protruding roots, clutching to them for dear life, staring in disbelief at what his eyes could see had caused his fall.
"What the fuck, man!? Dragons?!"
The creature of the same color as the mountain began dancing in the clear sky, roaring at the suns who slowly reached the northern end of the horizon.
"Oh, yes, this species's liminal. Only come out at dawn or dusk."
"N-no I mean..." He was completely disoriented by Eliza's response. "I thought they went extinct years ago."
"Nah." The explorer kept on climbing as the semy transparent membrane of the dragon's wings dropped their shade over their promontory and another roar from the eastern promontory answered the creature. "Only in the mainland, not in the isles. Now keep on going darling or we'll never reach the top before dark."
