Tiny scarves and a tiny, speech-capable thing dropping presumably magic dust? Lockely's fairy form from the first tale comes to mind, and very clearly so. After his transformation, one of the first things he did with his new magic was summon a scarf and glasses for himself, and we know that after that he wanted to go practice his magic further. The evidence lines up perfectly.
If this theory is true, it confirms something that was never clearly specified, and that I have been hesitant to take for granted: that these stories do happen within a single canon. Whether or not they are listed in chronological order would not be certain even then, but it seems like a safe assumption considering how impractical this whole thing would be otherwise.
