So, I said I'd do an Odin pic a while back, and I finally finished it!
Here are the credits for the images I used:
3 of my own from my Deviant Art gallery:
Gathering Storm, a free texture I made
Behind Reality, a share-alike texture I made, using a ritualized, spiritual methodology (eclectic solitary contemporary Pagan)
and a simple Odin's Horn I threw together because it was easier than finding a decent-sized free-use one online. It's totally free for anyone to employ in their own art. It's an ancient and simple symbol, after all.
The rest are either attribution-only Flickr Creative Commons images or Wikimedia Commons public domain images:

edit: sorry, the site doesn't like the last link. If you want to search for it on Wikimedia Commons, it's called Wotan Takes Leave of Brunhild, by Konrad Dielitz
also, there's a higher resolution of this pic available on my DA page - I'm justawerewolf there too.

I got permission to use and did not in the end use the following FurAffinity images:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3099698/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1311404/
Both artists were so nice, I wanted to give them a nod. I just decided that the tribal piece wasn't quite the look I was going for after all (my concept changed when I found the Wikimedia Commons pieces), and the gorgeous painting I realized was a collaboration, and I hadn't talked to both artists, so I just left it alone (being too impatient at that point to go through the asking process again).
it should be noted, though, that
atrawulf does gorgeous tribal-type designs, and everyone should be watching
dasaod. Seriously.
Finally, a note about racism and the worship of Odin: I know there are neo-Nazi practitioners of the Asatru faith (followers of the Aesir, or Odin's family of Norse gods).
This is unfortunate and sad.
Most Asatru are NOT racists, and in any case, I'm not Asatru. My personal pantheon is an eclectic collection from all over the world, and I believe that all of my deities honor worshipers of all colors.
Indeed, I would love to see a black or polynesian or any other non-white portrayal of Odin, just to make a point. Gods are gods. They're for everyone, and they can appear looking however they like. I'm deeply offended by the notion that only people of Norse decent can worship Norse gods (and I'm offended by this despite my family's Norse background, so there! )

I know! I've really never gotten the whole Us and Them thing. Especially over someone's coloring. I mean, human variation on a genetic level is about like the variation between black, yellow, and chocolate Labrador retrievers. We don't even have the equivalent of German shepherds or Dalmatians, much less Pekingese or English mastiffs, or any of the other diverse dog breeds out there.
Why can we get that the coloration of a Labrador retriever is essentially meaningless and not get it about our own species? A dog's worth is judged on behavior, and a human's should be too. *sigh*
