ailurus fulgens, wah, poonia, yes red panda, no, not fox.
i wish i could have a forty acre bamboo garden and let a bunch of them be living there as part of the species survival program, or something, or just be allowed to do so on general principals. i think the 2,000 foot elevation between colfax and grass valley in california they would be very comfortable, and i'm pretty sure the native felis concolor would be quite happy preventing them from crowding out anything the might be considered a threat of outcompeting, which i can't imagine would be anything, because the bamboo doesn't grow wild around there and so nothing else depends on it.
and i don't think the bamboo would crowd out the ponderosa, black oak or manzanita either.
ah but anyway. i suppose if we didn't have restrictions against that, people would be doing other horrible things.
still, i would so love to see a family of those guys living in my back yard, if i had a back yard, and lived up there where i grew up, and just know they'd be happy and comfortable.
