I really hope this story does justice to at least some of what black people have been through. On that subject, I argued with myself for some time about the title of this story. I've often heard the term "people of color" used among non-whites to describe themselves, on the other hand the term "colored people" is considered offensive. Would people object to using "color" in the title of a story about racial prejudice, even though the title refers to what's really on the inside of a person?

Finally I decided, Oh well, every great writer offends somebody. I hope you like this story regardless.
