What's the point of eyeball trees then if you don't use them for ethically sourced eyeballs.
I'm hoping the monster just borrows people's eyes to grow new eye trees out of them. Then once they've got a nice tree going they can return two of the eyes to the original owner, and maybe add a couple extra pairs as a thank you.
