I'm glad you noticed that. That's just a testament to Mary's great style as she will tall you this expression was specifially what I commissioned from the scene. I always loved characters that have personality. I like how Balto isn't the confident type but rather the reluctant hero. I love this piece and I especially love the expressions. Thanks Mary.

Hey, any advice for getting marker work to look so smooth?

Also, how big is this IRL?

This one isn't too big, it's 6"x9" like the size of a comic book cover. I find when trying to work too big, it's a lot harder to keep the markers from drying out.

Um, as far as tips... I try to use markers that are pretty new, and work quickly blending back and forth between colors. The wetter the ink is, the better it blends, and it dries fast. I don't really like using a clear blending marker, I haven't really gotten a good result with that.

Also, try to get smooth paper or bristol board. I've found some decent card stock in the past as well, but it's good to try lots of papers til you get the one you like best.

Basically, just practice with lots of different stuff, and keep your markers wet.

I adored this when I was a kid. Kinda wish it had come out the year before it did, coming out when it did put it against Toy Story and it lost out horribly when it could have been a massive hit if it hadn't z.z
