They appeared about a year or so ago. They wanted to faze out Britannia for some inane reason or another. At least they didn't bugger about with the two pound coin. That thing is awesome.
In all, American money is pretty boring. All the notes roughly the same size and colour which I found annoying. I guess America doesn't have much history to go on someone won't blow a gasket over.

That's actually on the back of one of the newer pennies. That's where the joke started. We thought it was creepy that he left the building. It reminded me of some ghost movie or short story I read as a kid where there's this painting of a little girl inside of a house. Later, the painting shows her outside of the house, and then she's not in the painting at all.
