I don't watch the show to know anything about the context of this piece - why there's apparently a bit of blood on his cheek or what the red panda is doing there.
BUT!...from the little screenshots I've seen of the show and what I'm seeing here, I just want to say this is a remarkable artistic rendering of the character. The character looks fantastic, with himself being readily identifiable as "that character from that show", with enough of that show's style showing through to make him recognizable, yet still done in your own style to really showcase your talent as an artist. The character is expressive, and the more mainstream rendering of his body style/anatomy in that suit looks good as he fills it out quite well. This is a great example of "recreating this known thing from one genre/technique, but doing it in this new style in way that's both refreshing, wonderful, but still very recognizable".

The red panda is Retsuko, Haida's crush. She was nearly killed when some crazed fan of a band that she performed in tried to attack her with a box cutter. Luckily, Haida was there to stop him and ended up getting cut in the process. He's upset because he thought she was dead, but she was just knocked out. The blood on him is just his own.
