I made this pattern, a variant of snakeskin. I've never seen it before, so I'm naming it Shieldmaille. If anyone has ever seen this before, please let me know what names it has.
14 gauge steel wire, with 5/16 and 1/2 inch rings.
Someone finally found this weave from someone else. It's also known as Poor King's Scale, a variant of King's Scale, where all rings are doubled in the manner in which half the rings are doubled here.

ok true that, and i would say it would be quite durable for armor...it also depends on if you can maintain it before it starts falling apart, i would say that you should get a small piece, hit with a few attacks (hammer, pickaxe, or knife, etc.) or somethin
heres a tip: after heating metal letting cool very slowly so that it natrually hardens

hm... sounds like you need this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamellar_armour
Maille's easy to make, just very tedious.
Hmm, that could be done. I don't sew, though, and not sure how I'd secure the maille inside the fabric. Best bet would be to buy a vest and find someone who makes clothing by hand.
It's a Freak Out icon.
Lostlove makes them for a few bucks. ^^

I might try my hand at maille someday. As to securing it to the fabric... could probably get some heavy sail thread or something similar and use that.
That's cool. It doesn't look too hard to do. I think I'ma throw some random .gifs of my characters around my future website eventually. Oh, I came up with a name for my new comics series: "Unrestricted Comics" Chose that because I refuse to censor myself if the comic works out better that way. :D

I found mention of this weave! You say in the comment there to say if you've seen if before, and I saw it the other day and remembered you, though the concept it was working on is the opposite of your concept here. Here you're taking Snake Skin and adding to it, whereas this other concept is taking King's Scale and subtracting from it (Since King's Scale has every spot a ring would be in Euro 4-1 doubled up in this fashion). They called it Poor King's Scale ( http://www.mailleartisans.org/weave.....hp?oldkey=2928 ). I'm not much for King's Scale myself. It's usually done in small gauges (Eighteen seems pretty common, but sixteen works) yet up to about the same ring sizes you're using here, so I've never regarded it as anything more than some fancy but not all that difficult ornamental weave.
Alright. If you haven't been to http://www.furaffinity.net/user/furandsteel yet, go there. ^^
