First off, I eff'n LOVE Getter Robo ever since I was a child, I loved the aspect of 3 (or more) machines just slamming into each other to form a massive robot - more so if the combination made sense!
Thus started my lust for quasi fictional engineering.
Skip forward to my all-time-favorite MMO, EverQuest II. As a Necromancer, I can summon 3 different pets, each one geared for different situations: an All around killer (Sorcerer) speedy attacker (Nightshade) and unstoppable tank (Knight). It didn't take long for me to see the parallels between Getter Robo and my pets and start working on a little project to test myself:

yup already working on 2 and 3. *nods at the 'groin' of Getter 3. that's the helmet of the Undead Knight. While I'm going to use the chroma shifting aspect of getter 2 heavily, the mechanical aspect is all there.
IE: the sides of Getter 1 are shoulder pads for Getter 2 and 3. Front of Getter 3 is the helmet for the knight as stated- the red parts of Getter 2 fold inwards and extend into the daggers of the Nightshade. The 'knees' of Getter 3 become the elbows and forearms of the Knight.
It just works out too beautifully! ^_^

Also: You have a real talent for this kind of thing. Now that you describe it, I can see how that'd work out--perfectly. You really have picked up from the art style of Armageddon, as well as possibly Shin.
Which series was your favorite, if you don't mind me asking? While Armageddon was good, the director's shifts made it too hard to follow for my tastes. Wonderful for art, but for the actual storyline it was a bit spastic. Also: Saotome is a villain what?

grew up with G, I enjoy the art style of Armageddon, but my favorite design is New Getter (NOT NEO getter).

Armageddon's fault was that while it explained everything it often took them over 5 episodes to get to it. (IE why Dragon's Getter beam caused a prehistoric land to pop-up- they wait until near the very end to mention that Getter rays are weaponized evolution. So the blast turned a barren wasteland into a few million years of evolution.
As for why Saotome is the antagonist- he screwed around with the Invaders to the point of even infecting his daughter with them (they went out of control and she hit an emergency abort switch during a combination. To cover it up, he blamed Hayato and Ryoma for the crash then faked his own death. He later became infected himself and built Getter Dragon to dump getter radiation on the whole world.
At the end, when Shin Getter G was destroyed with the Stoner Sunshine, the Invader in his body tried to leave but he held it in to die with him- and in that moment of clarity bid farewell to Ryoma, Hayato and Benki.

I do believe this was the only animated version where they had the pilots call out the /wrong/ transformation to fool the other Getter pilots--calling out 3 so that the opponent would be slow, then transforming to 2 so that they could be lightning fast and block their transformation. Which is /genius/. I love meta stuff like that.

You mean in Armageddon? Nah, they both combined into Getter 3, and were completely formed by the time 1 and 3 were connecting. The original 3 noticed that and tried to combine again, managing to actually catch Getter 1 before it could connect to 2 and 3. Boasting that they had done the combination so many times and for so long that they could do it with their eyes closed, while the Doctor, Mr. Stinger and Mr. Koen were new to it.

Getter Robo and Berserk. The only two anime I can completely overlook all the BS cliche'd elements of anime and just flat-out enjoy.

Yeah I watched it. Nice anime, And while I liked Kamina- he had a problem with mortality while Ryoma acts the same, but instead of dying goes on to a Valhalla-like dimension inhabited by the other iterations of Getter Robo to fight a never-ending battle of awesomeness lead by Getter Emperor- a machine so massive and powerful that it's formation caused the universe to quake in fear -- then it punched through the head of Buddha just because.
tl;dr version: Gurren Lagann is good, but Getter Robo is pretty much a team of psychotic villains who defend the Earth- leading to the confusing conclusion of 'who do you cheer for?'.

ok...never played EQ2 but this does look cool fo rme Getter is my 2nd fav, Grandizer/Grendizer been my fav but yeah Getter is pretty bad ass. So question

I grew up with Getter G so it gets my vote. original getter has too much of a 'gut' imo (omission for Black Getter in armageddon) and I'm not much for Shin Getter having eyes.
But currently my favorite design is New Getter. (NOT NEO GETTER) It's a beautiful combination of the old and shin. *has the Revoltech of it as well* ^_^

ahh cool, i think Getter G is the best out of all of them, i do like the design of all 3 of the robots, seem to look the best and best porportioned. Shin, eh, i dunno the eye is odd but just dont like the whole thing.
New Get is intresting, and the story line is just....well crazy :P but i guess it is as close to what the creators invisoned it

Hmmm I don't ever remember this series however it just means I MUST WATCH IT! Oh and in my research and self evaluation it looks like pretty awesome stuff from just watching this
