They recognize that fact and give me a wide berth, for
the most part.
In suit, kids love me. They think I'm their dog.

Yes! This is what it's all about! I was at an anime con myself this weekend and there were plenty of friendly little ones that'd come up and play with me. To put a smile on their faces is the most enjoyable experience ever.

I once had a little boy dressed up as a lion holding onto my tail and following me around while I got some candy... Cutest thing ever though, he gave me a BUNCH of his candy. My heart exploded.
This is damn near close to the same emotion :)

Why are they wearing coats? It's California, cold doesn't happen much out there.

I just had a similar experience this weekend too.
There was a barmitsfa in the same hotel as Morphicon sadly, as Morphicon is rather..........creepy and I didn't even want to go D: BUT what made my day is I walked around this corner and these five little girls just screemed FLUFFY KITTY and totally ran up and hugged me ;w; Cutest moment ever suiting.

No, it's all good- you don't sound mean.
In RL, I'm a little scared around kids.
I have no real "kid experience" to draw from.
Kids seem to know this and will usualy keep a
respectful distance from me.
I do love them when I'm in suit, though.

dogbomb, your gallery of epic fursuit adventures only inspire me to become a fursuiter even more and get a more PG or toony fursuit than I had planned! I only wish I knew of furs local to my area that did this thing in large groups because I'd be afraid to do this on my own, for fear of harm to myself by those who view a anthropamorphic costume as something to be hated or feared or despised. It's too bad you live in Cali or i Don't, because you sir are someone I would very much enjoy adventuring with... :3

The public response to my suit has been 99.9% positive.
Never a derogatory comment spoken; I've just been actively
ignorned once or twice.
That is the beauty of the con: one can suit for hours with
no worries, and indeed, you are treated like a rock star.
I hope we get to meet up one day.

If i get a fursuit made this year or early next, I may just see about Anthro Con 2011, room & travel expenses permitted :>

To me, suiting is only fun if the audience
appreciates your "performance."
Kids are the most fun because they believe...

That is just so very adorable. There's nothing like the feeling a kid gets from clinging to the waist of a big soft giant costumed person, but they believe it's so very real. <3 I just adore kids...their minds are flawless in every way, because of their imaginations. This is one of the biggest reasons I'd want to get a fursuit x3 Unfortunately, some parents don't take too kindly to it if they know of the fandom and have the wrong impression and such. A little kid's hug is so precious like that.. ^^ I can't wait to have children of my own. I'll be sure to take them to places where they could see giant sized animals walking on two legs running around. Lol. Like Disney land or something. I'm sure they' get a kick out of that. And If I saw you I'd let the hugging commence as well! Kids just eat this stuff up. <3
