I just saw this again today, and it reminds me of a conversation I recently had involving what if characters we don't use too often get fat and lazy from underuse... so that when you do dust them off, they're out of shape and not used to being out and about...? This seems like one of those situations where he realizes that too much time off has made him pretty durn squishy! <3
