That was the intention, yes. I didn't really want the viewer involved personally in a way, rather i'd have it be a moment between these two with the viewer impression almost as if looking through the slit of a door or something. (that and vertical framing is fun, plus it offered other advantages, like a feeling of confinedness etc.)
The perspective, colouring and lighting make this emotional. We can see the parents photograph, his sad expression and his comforting wife. In just one glance we can sense the story. You are a master of emotional ambience and deliver very powerful images. Your hard work and detail is incredible. WELL DONE⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
