On a device called a lathe which spins the pieces of wood really freaking fast. Chisels and gouges are applied to the spinning wood any the metal travels over the surface of it to cave it evenly, the tools edge basically travels the equivilient of miles in the entire process ;p

The wood starts out as just normal blocks, they get dyed or are purchased dyed if an unnatural color is desired. I drill them, put a brass tube inside and carve. I order the spring loaded bits that make it work online and put those inside after the carving is done.
