Self-defense. The dog attacked him when he was performing his duty as a postman. Any animal that attacks a human and draws blood is immediately put down by law in many states in the US. I'd say it'll be a slam dunk win and Avery will end up getting a nice paycheck from the plaintiff to pay for his legal expenses. At least, that's my guess.
