Character portrait for the Pembers, a rather large plural system (featuring Myra, Morga, Toost, Jural, Ploot, and Balmer, among many others) who appear in our graphic novel and prose fiction the Sunspot Chronicles. They are the friends of the Flits, a much smaller system.

The Pembers live on a gigantic interstellar generational starship called the Sunspot, and are part of a group of adolescents who are given the opportunity to be fitted with nanite based Network terminals (a form of neural link or data jack). This new form of terminal allows them all to manifest separately on the Network and interact independently with the outer world, bypassing the bottleneck of their own body.

Their body has many traits that are reminiscent of an opossum, including a pouch, but also they have these two expressive feathers that sprout from behind their ears, among other more subtle differences.
