I was working at our Glide Slope site today, and as I walked outside I stepped on something squishy. I thought I had dropped a paper towel, as I'd been doing some cleaning. Imagine my surprise when I looked down and saw this cute guy. This gopher snake is almost 5' long, the largest one I have caught in the last year. I let him go in the sagebrush near the site, as I have not had much luck with pet gopher snakes. They seem to get surly in captivity.

Reminds me of the gopher snake I found as a youth. A good 8' long and of a shine to boot. Fresh shed and still not quite too friendly. Wild snakes are always fun to find since they really care not to have any interaction with humans so seeing them is a rare treat indeed. The one you found is a real beauty.
