Spiced Apple cider with carved halved apples baked first in the oven.
3 Granny Smiths
1/2 gallon Apple juice
2 sticks of cinnamon
3TBSP lemon
5-10 whole cloves depending on taste
Lemon juice for pouring over carved apples (I just used the leftover for the cider)
Add spices to Apple juice and heat on low to simmer for about an hour. When cool transfer to pitcher, Let sit for at least a day. Halve, peel and core apples. Carve into desired shape. Pour lemon juice over, bake for 1hr 30mi at 120c. Add to cider. Serve warm as is or with spiced rum.

Oooh spooky! I might try this with my eldest (12). It may actually make my fruit and veggie aversive one (8) eat an apple. Or atleast cackle with delight. He loves "spooky scary"
I don't usually mess much with food coloring, but I bet a red tinge to the cider would double up the creep factor. Hm.
