The title for this work is "Do or die"
This is my contribution to the Draw the muslim prophet muhammed day.
I am fully aware if muslim doctrine not to allow any imagery what so ever of the prophet. However, I am a citizen in a christian country, raised on moral and ethical values derived from christian mythos and nordic tradition. I am as such NOT BOUND by muslim law or doctrine, to which I am fully allowed to draw whatever muslim prophet I so may please.
In making this work, I would state that my interpretation and presentation of the prophet is that of what his worshipers give him. You, the angry muslim who would take offense to this, and give threats of death and destruction for this, you make me see hate and violence when i think of the prophet. The day that all muslims learn to accept that others will act as other do, for they are not muslim, and do not follow the teaching of islam, the day they just shrug and do not take offense, that is the day I will dance the futterwacken, and be joyous, for that is the day the adherents of islam have matured.
Until then, I shall remain a danish cartoonist, drawing prophets, to show that I am not one of you, that I can do this, and that I do not accept attempts of censorship or threats of violence and death.

Aye.
But you're the first person I've seen so far to submit something relevant to the meaning of this day. Everyone else is exploiting the day just to have a lousy excuse to make some sort of insulting image without consideration of its actual meaning.
This day was made in retaliation of the stalking and eventual murder of that Danish cartoonist who died simply for exercising his freedom of expression.

hey, i'll throw this around on 4chan and other nice troll-hubs - trust me, people will get pissed either way
i enjoy that part of it too. pissing people off like that and watching them simmer with impotent rage, over people that they cannot ever hope to silence proudly broadcasting a stoic act of free speech and expression...
that is the very essence of trolling
its also a valid political statement, but hey, whatever works

ok, so if you see a brown man with a thawb speaking what sounds to you to be arabic, you're immediate mindset is to label them as barbarians? interesting
this makes me feel so safe and welcomed as an Arab guy knowing some western chauvinists might give me a 9mm to the face because I "look scary"

oh I must have done something good today :)
So... what do I not know?
I know this:
It is written no-where in the Quran that Allah decrees for no depictions of any of his many prophets
It is however written in the Quran that no depiction can ever depict Allah (you know, because he's too godly or something for us to etch-a-sketch)
I also know that is only written in the islamic Hadith, the 'this is how you're supposed to interpret the Quran because we say so' scripture, that muslim clerics have made over the millenia... that you must'nt draw yonder prophet
Now, here's the really fun kicker:
the reason is, supposedly, that yonder prophet mu-man, told his followers - his fellow muslims - that they should not make idols in his liking, for they should not worship him - they should worship Allah. basically, they should not revere him - they should revere the god. Sensible enough, right?
Now consider: muslims reacting with rage and whatnot, over non-belivers depicting their prophet? I'm not going to worship him any time soon... so where's the beef?
This is the fact I poke fun at - this is what I wholeheartedly ridicule, for it shows how little so many muslims know about their own faith.
I'm a danish cartoonist - I'm dangerously genre savy - and I've done my homework.
Come at me bro :3

hmm... lets see - "religion of peace" that tends to involve angry mobs that behead people. Right, makes perfect sense.
How about this one:
I draw what I draw to teach those who would take offence that I do not live by their rules. I live in northern europe, not the middle east - and thus I am not bound by their rules and cultural taboos.
You know, you being american I would think that you'd be all for personal liberty and freedom of speech? I'll refrain from saying that you're not, but you really have to consider: How much a citizen of another country bow and scrape just because people in ANOTHER country will get pissed when they hear of what I do in my spare time?
I do not hold foreigners to my country's laws - that would be silly. So equally, I think that when others do that, it is very silly.
Besides, like I first said: The prophet only wanted muslims to not depict him, so they would not worship him. I am not muslim, and I certainly do not worship the prophet. Thus, I should be totally in the clear... and if you think I'm not, then really, consider your argument to why that is very carefully.

Wouldn't it be simpler to ask yourself: why should I play by their rules in the first place?
and I make it a declaration because - and trust me on this - you're not the first person to ask why, so a declaration would hopefully answer the question in such a way that others who feel curious or offended would understand it and not need to ask again.

I guess I don't get it.
It was silly of me to forget that you've had different experiences in your life, seen things that have shaped your view on a subject. In this case, Islam. The life that I have lived and the people I have met have led me to feel a certain way about this. Your lifestyle has shaped your view and I don't know what it's like to be you, so I can't make assumptions about how you choose to live your life.
Thanks for taking the time to try and explain it to me.

wut?
well that there's certainly a non-answer if I've ever seen one
What shapes my views?
Pumpkin, you go right ahead and feel as smug and superior as you want: your country was founded by people who didn't want to bow to foreigners customs (literally lol) and laws.
I drew this because many years ago when a danish cartoonist drew the prophet, muslims all over the middle east went apeshit and murdered quite a lot of people.
Is that ok?
last year, on may the 20th - the first International Draw The Prophet Muhammed day - tens of thousands on netizens drew the prophet muhammed, and showed the muslim world that they have no hope of silencing the free world.
Free speech IS NOT does not mean 'the right to not get offended'
Governments should not censor artists because they fear the riots of religious extremists.
"If you don't bow to our demands (to not draw certain mythological characters) then we will burn and murder your shit"
That's the kind of demands that terrorists make.
I thought americans preferred not to bow to that kind of demands - and yet, you question why I choose not to bow to this demand?
I would advice you to answer this question, because otherwise I would be sad for you - for you have obviously not understood the meaning of freedom, or the threat that political correctness in the face of misguided religious outrage is.

Hello. I made this comment a long time ago.
I'd like to apologize.
It was unfair for me to pick on Islam for what Christianity and Judaism are also guilty of.
I also do not support the state of Israel in any form, especially after what has happened.
I also am seeing in real time that Christians want to do every single thing they accuse muslims of.
I am also very scared of what Donald Trump will do to the United States.
I am sorry.

I feel sad about you people. You make fun about Prophet Muhammad be we never make fun of your so called Jesus. And yet you people make fun of your own Jesus. Are you Christian people are sick or something? Do always have say something bad about islam? Why,because you wanted all the things that islam can't do?
and I feel a bit sad for you too
first of all because you apparently didn't read the description accompanying the picture...
and secondly because you honestly think that its about making fun of your prophet.
Try reading the description, then comment again to see if that didn't explain a few things to you.

I think one reason why a muslim makes no fun of Jesus is that, in the quran, he is also mention as a prophet called ʿĪsā ibn Maryam wich means Jesus son of Mary. So he is set equal with Mohammed in the Quran.
From my point of view are Christians, Jews and Moslems praying to the same God.

Ah, the good old "If he offends one religion, he must hate them all" argument
Jew would indicate that one as a member of the mosaic faith and/or culture
and consider this:
I drew that picture that as an act of solidarity. no other religion on the planet gathers angry mobs that go on killing sprees simply because someone drew a picture.
equally, then if you know your islam then you would know that the prophet only wanted muslims to not depict him, so they would not worship him. Now, considering how muslims still seem to revere said prophet as sacred, using his name to the point that its the most popular in the world...
I think i'm the better muslim - as I actually get the message - at least when it comes to this specific argument.

Sorry SIR,I don't offend nor hate because Im not like you people.Do you really think that "Islam" and "Christian" are correct religion? We don't know, only god knows it.I was only asking what your culture think about "Jews",you don't have say depict or worship him. Also why do you think I will offend more than 1? Why? Because you think Im a racist islamic person? And again Im sorry,I respect all culture except when they started a fight.
that was not easy to read - consider learning better english, it will make your arguments better
but lets take it from the top
1) you dont offend or hate because you're not "like you people"
>implying that 'hate' and offend
I dont hate. I can understand thats difficult for a devout theist to understand, my motivation behind this isn't hate: its enlightenment
You come to me saying that I offend the prophet and islam by being offended, merely drew a picture.
2) do I think religion X or Y is the correct religion?
I honestly dont think that any religion is totally correct or right. scripture was, and has always been, written by mortal human hands. religious mythology was deviced thousands of years ago as a means of controling the public and enforcing laws. "our gods say you must behave according to our rulers laws, or you go to hell". I worship no gods or dieties.
3) what I think of jews? They're jews - thats what I think of them. Beyond that I'd prefer to evaluate each individual jew on a personal basis, based on their political and social behavior if need be. I cannot pass judgement on all of them at once, since I do not know very many.
You know, the concept of jewish culture is very broad. heck, being a jew doesn't even mean that you have to be a practicing member of the religion - it merely shows one being a part of the culture and community
4) why do I think you will offend more than 1? that doesn't make sense dude
5) do I think you're a racist islamic person?
nope, if anything i think you're a muslim with sub-par english skills. Consider reading some books in english, just stories and fiction are fine. it enriches your vocabulary.

>keep hating and killing...
pot, kettle, black, look who's talking?
[sarcasm]I'm oh so sorry that I didn't live up to your expectations - how did you envision me? a hatefilled god-hater who wants to murder jews and muslims?[/sarcasm]
nope, try intelligent and educated individual - who knows what he's talking about - and does not blindly accept dogma without questioning its validity, origins and practicality

Sorry,I'm not smart, but is really rude.

Yeah, the way you said,it sounds like you do.
In the end,you still hate us.
"Keep Hating and Killing"
Meaning:
1.You will hate us due to your false eyes.
2.Your people still kill some of our brothers.isn't that true?

false eyes?
have you considered that there is more than one way to live life?
of course, to accept that notion you would also have to accept that the muslim way of life might not be the best...
indeed, your attitude is quite common amongst the theists I have discussed this topic with
To you I will be a bad person no matter what I say to justify my actions - because you cannot accept what I do, for to do so would be to accept that you yourself and your beliefs might be wrong.
Trust me, I do not have false eyes - I see painfully clearly what I do, and what you do.
It is you who live in a house with no windows - so you see only what is inside, what is familiar, what is known. anything beyond is scary, strange and different - and must be bad because of that.
I pitty you - and while I know that you will not accept any such pitty, I shall do so anyway.
oh and please, 'your people killing our brothers' - what people are you talking about? I'm not american, I'm not british, and I'm not a soldier. If you're talking unprovoked aggresion, I know these two towers that some muslims knocked down a while ago... or these taliban jokers, would they qualify as your brothers by the same logic you're using? See, its not fun when you're made aware of how silly ones insults are.

I have answered that question in the description to the picture, at the top of this page
that you have to ask merely shows that you never read it
but in case you still wont read it, I'll explain again:
I drew it to demonstrate that I can. That I do not live in a place where religious law dictates what I can or cannot do. I live under secular law, allowing me the freedom of speech and right of expressing myself.
Freedom of speech does NOT mean freedom not to be offended - for such would require censorship.
Nobody has the right not to be offended - and those who do are deluded and sad beings

that was a dutch film maker - but let me put it this way: I've been hugged by an iranian atheist over my understanding of islamic lore.
...so I know my shit here apparently :p
Either way: Thank for the watch - and do note that I have 3 other prophet drawings up here :p
For extra amusement: Try to read through the comments on them all for all the stupidity thrown at me by people who clearly didn't know what they were talking about

not on FA... the comments I've gotten in my dA account with these images have been more colorful, although none have crossed that line
At worst most are like "You shouldn't do this and you will burn in hell for it" - and one joker who tried to cite something that was supposed to look like a danish law against racism as why I couldn't do this

but it was an exchange purely in danish. My other prophet pictures are there too - and like I said: some of the idiots posting there are far more aggresive than here on FA (makes for more amusing comments IMO)
as for the law - its a silly one about defamation, that this moron thought he could apply to his imaginary friend, I mean, thing he worships... which of course completely misses the point of it all

its all the same argument really
It boils down to an existential horror that these people are unwilling or unable to cope with:
If I can do things that their faith forbids them - then how can I be happy?
This cognitive dissonance can be really terrifying to a lot of people, especially those with very strict dogmatic (religious scripture-based) ways of life - such as, not eating pork, or not drawing their prophet, or not doing this and that
that's why most religious communities ultimately either isolate themselves - or attempt to convert all they meet - because you cannot have people who live and think 'wrong' be near those you think live and think right without someone ultimately asking: "hold on, if these guys don't have to swear off alcohol, or women, or partying hard, or whatever - and they're happy - why do I have to give those things up?"
and religious leaders do not want such questions asked - because... its very uncomfortable to having to face the potential truth that for most of your life you've been living a lie, thinking that you would be happier without so many different things
that is the horror - that you're been living a lie - doing all these things for nothing
that's why its easier to decry, fear and hate those who do not live and think as you do - because they are different - they are wrong - they must be shown the right way - and if they will not convert, then let us end their life so their souls are not sullied any more...
notice how at the end that becomes a very medieval attitude

I have been in many debates on religion but you have put your views a bit more effectively. Some atheists I've met are just as bad as some Christians but maybe because the overwhelming nature of the abrahamic religious groups.
Other ones of Pagan nature are completely peaceful these days except the fascist Norse groups which don't need explained do they? XD
But yes fear is what drives the more fanatical religions (Orthodox Jews, Catholics, Not sure on Islam)
Then you have Buddhists who are generally neutral to /everything/.
So on and so on.
Religion in small small doses isn't/wasn't a bad thing but when they got too big it became an issue.
In the end religion doesn't hold up against human nature.
Also don't touch my fucking alcohol or my bacon. XD

yes
mind you, there are violent buddhists as well - they just dont appear in the media that often, but they exist. Trust me.
But that is the trick: When you understand the fundamental horror that religious folks face in having to argue with someone who doesn't share their faith they become very easy to contend with
Read this comic here onwards - its dealing with this exact issue and frames it quite well: http://leftoversoup.com/archive.php?num=426

Its very noble of you to say this. But after all videos and images that portray Moslems as terrorist i belive that they are good individuals following a Shari'a stat worldwide dictated by terror for thise that do not follow.
Islam is not a religion, its a pollitical agenda and we cannot get mixed feelings portraying them as martirs or simply followers, they are Muslims, they are a group of a pollitical ideology that wants to overthrow every government to institude Their values. And we are either pawns or dead for them.

dude - all religions can be chalked up as political agendas. They all started as political systems to control populations. "Thou shalt not steal" and "Thou shalt not kill" and so on.
and there are a shitload of muslims living in mainland europe who behave themselves quite nicely. Here in Denmark where I live we have plenty of those.
...we also have a very small and disliked minority who sort of advocate for support of what we call terrorist - and they're opposed by both local muslim organizations and our government, and observed carefully by our intelligence community.
but you should NEVER judge all of them broadly. Never. That kind of thinking only leads to bad places.
In the same way that not all christians are members of the Westboro babtist church, or all jews support what Israel is doing to the palestinians we have to keep in mind that these people do not represent all muslims.

Muslim means to serve, they are already programed to be subserviants to the Qur'an.
The law of takiyya on the Qura'n means they can lie so long as they are threatened or their way of life is or to indoctrinate.
Sharia law is meant to be instituted planet-wide.
Now now, don't pull a Rossie ODonell on me, radical islam means to subdue and control those who are not islamist, and Christianism is, compared to islam so much more veneficial. Why Richard Dawkins said it himself, Historically the most radical moment that christianity had where the crusades, and in comparison to what the muslims did in their equivalent... Christians today live a botched christianity, most christians who where in Spain actualy did not went to other countries but FLED from islamic doctrine, look it up.
apostasy in islamic states means to be literally dead for muslims if you where a believer, and you should be executed, in non islamic states it means to be excluded from family and friends.
If you do not wear you hijab on islamic states you can be beaten, or killed, just months ago 30+ school children, ladies, where burned alive because the moral police did not let them leave a mosque on fire.
We are at a war, you and i, is muslims Vs the planet and i am not exaggerating, look it up, trust me we live a good life outside Sharia run countries, but they are growing, westboro baptist church is nothing compared to the boards islamists put up "behead non muslims - burn Denmark - kill all infidels"... Hey i can send you videos of all i am talking about, There are not only christians and historians talking about this but also Atheists and the news themselves.
So realy, i need to polish my "against islam" rhetoric, if you want to talk about all generalized points i just mentioned go ahead... But it all leads to what i said, Islam is a religion of hate.
There is wonderful people in the claws of this political agenda, true, but hey, the families of the bombers that crashed through the twin towers cheered at the news of the Demise of their sons from their cozy seats in THE USA...
Wonderfull people, monstrous religion.
Remember Kurt Westgaard, he stood up against the unfairness of Allah, and this is why we have the 30th of may... Remember him and honor him and all those who stand up against islam.

By your first line you reveal your bias
that said, then yes: the Qura'n is fairly clear that it is meant for global domination/sharia implementation.
Much like how the christian bible says roughly the same time... because all religions basically say "go convert people and spread the faith" in one way or the other - if they didn't, they probably don't exist anymore.

Ah see, the problem with comparing the Quran with the bible is that in both faiths, even thoug there is a clear freedom before choosing one or the other or none, the Quran states that if you live in a muslim state you can be taxed a Jizya, an honoring for not being a muslim and living in an islamic state, and if you are an apostate then you must be executed, where as on a christian state or country you are free to do what you want, but lets not go as far. Haven't you heard that there are states from countries worldwide in some countries that are starting to exercise Sharia law? Ever heard of an Christian only country?
Again, compared to muslims, Christians are beneficial to society, i am no christian, but i like to think they are good people leaded by ok principles, whereas muslims are being led by political legislation to overthrow and institute sharia law!
Again, do not pull a Rossie ODonell on me, the comparison to what christians, seculars or any branch of reasoning or belief sistem vs islam has done, violent wise its minimal and perennial.
Here is a video from a presentation of someone i respect profoundly, now this man is an historian , he speaks with no emotion whatsoever, his are pure, stone cold facts http://youtu.be/t_Qpy0mXg8Y Doctor Bill Warner.
found also a video of Richard Dawkins explaining apostasy on muslim states and how Christianity could enter in a role, even in modern society http://youtu.be/pQzuFrMRA3M
Look i know you live in a peaceful society or surroundings... But that could end if muslims keep invading and indoctrinating, they will use the banner of freedom of speech in each society to atrack free societies, they rape women, they can sell child slaves, institute false taxes on people, bully women... Again, there are good people om islam, just being lead in an awful set of political ideas.

Dude, I don't know where your beef with islam is - but between the of us we are clearly seeing things different.
You appear to have a very black/white good/evil thing going on with islam vs the rest of the world. I don't quite see it that way.
But hey, you go right ahead and keep up this O'Reilly style rhetoric you got going on. I'm just not buying. Sorry.
I've explained my point of view.

I am glad you ask this - though I am even happier from seeing the first line in your comment
My solution to your question:
Education.
As far as I can see 99% of the crazies in islam come from poor and downtroden regions. They don't seem to know much beyond "foreigners tend to shoot at us and drop bombs from the sky" and "anything that isn't part of our own tribe is likely a foreigner"
education - opening their minds to the wider world - is a great way to kill of barbarism.
When people realize and accept that people can work and live in a way other than their own - in accordance to a set of beliefs (or no beliefs at all) that are very much different to one's own.
Remember: One of the core rules of pretty much any religion is the idea that "This religion is the only true one, and our dogmatically informed morals and ethics are the only real ones - anyone else is doing it wrong"
Anyone who grows up knowing only that single perspective can very easily be talked into the idea that it is just and right to spread their own ways - even by force - onto others. If you have no real idea how other people live, only knowing that your priests are telling you that those strange foreigners that occationally thrown bombs at you from the sky all live in sin, in affront to your god, then... well... ya
But if you grow up knowing that many people, all over the world, live in different ways - then you are far more likely to grow up with a more open mind to other ways of being.
This goes to explain why african islamic terror organizations such as Boko Haram are named like that... since Boko Haram literally means "Western education is forbidden" - they hate the west so much, both because they think we live in sin (because we don't live by their rules), because countries like the US likes to do drone strikes, and because they've been led to believe that a western education somehow magically makes you not want to be a hardcore muslim... because for some reason you learn that there are nicer/other ways to do.
There are western examples of this mentality:
Back in 2010 I studied at Virginia Tech as part of my masters degree - and while there I had a class with some education students (they were learning to become high school teachers and whatnot)
They told me that many religious fundies in the US dread the idea of their children getting college educations... because for some reason those kids have a tendency to stop wanting to be religious fundamentalists after a few semesters at a college campus. It's almost as if being exposed to random people from other places can show you that such other people can live by different rules and religious views.

The best cure for 'barbaric' cultural tradition is exposure to other cultures.
There will always nostalgic people who call for a return to "the good old days" - even if those good old days are but an illusion.
and with regards to reform - ya, that's not a bad example. Spain has constantly been exposed to sea-faring merchants from all over europe, the middle east, africa... it was was bound to happen there.
Part of the trick behind the effect of witnessing other cultures is that it allows for discussion of one's own rules and dogma. "If those guys can look really happy without having to give up bacon, why should we?" type of discussion.
Some will dismiss that by saying that its the heretics who are wrong and sinful - but others will realize question the beliefs they were brought up with. Its not a comfortable decision to make: Nobody likes the idea of having to come to terms with the notion, that you might have been wrong about how to live life all your life. Some seek refuge in their faith, trying to ignore or block out the world around them, while others will embrace this new change and shed their old ways, and some will seek a compromise between the two.
The above also applies to politics mind you. Try to talk a hardcore right winger into accepting that socialism might have some merit and see what happens

so you're ok with reactionary propaganda that calls your friends and peers barbarians? man, "white people" suck bro. like even when y'all conservatives are acting "nice", deep down there's still a racist mindset. I guess the years of the US lobbying neocon influence "war on terror" propaganda since 9-11 essentially rubbed off to those willing to be influenced easily
how about actually bother to learn rather than having your biases confirmed. If I wanted to learn about trans people, I probably wouldn't watch fucking Matt Walsh

ngl this seething face seems like projection. 25% of the entire human race is muslim and they, like all other people, are mostly minding their own business and you're out here saying "how dare they exist! grrrr!"
I don't know if you're some sam Harris shilling zionist atheist or some pagan neo-nazi odinist but it doesn't really matter
