Howdy! Sorry for lack of updates for a while, I've been working on a rather big project, and by big, I do mean big. A few months ago I posted a plush for Alan, and now I have a matching plush for BLK. This one was a lot more complicated to make. Alan was about 70 some pieces of fabric, BLK was around 340 which included some internally baffles to hold the stuffing in the right parts of the body.
This has been something I've wanted to do for a long time, build and actual full-sized BLK plush. It was a lot of work to do it, and a lot of friends that taught me things along the way. This included not only sewing which alone took about five weeks, but also building physical and 3D models in blender.
This was a crazy thing to do. Like absolutely insane. But so much fun. I'm not sure if I will ever do something of this scale again, but I am glad I did it.
Question Time!
What absolutely insane thing do you or did you want to do like this? Did you do it? Do you ever plan on doing it?

At least with things that aren't super critical, like creative stuff, I have a tendency to throw myself at it without really much fear of failure. At the least, I would come out of it learning something I can apply to the future. There is definitely room for improvement here, but I'm extremely happy that I did this and someday after I master some of the other skills, I'll make something even better. Tankaa is pushing me to make a fursuit, and while I'm nervous about that in general, I will admit it's an interesting challenge. Personally, I'd like to try making a Skeksies costume or something like that which would involve some animatronics.
I wrote up the basic process in the comment https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38.....#cid:150990503 . If you need more details, let me know.

This is getting absolutely nuts. I thought the Alan plush was really good, and now you're making 15 ft long Life Size plushes?
I don't want to pry too much, I know there were a lot of technical aspects with the fabrics and the sowing as to how it was all put together, but also how expensive was it to get all the sheer amount of materials for it? I don't want to know the exact amount, just the most expensive range you can put it in is fine enough.

The basic process is written up at https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38.....#cid:150990503 . As for the price, materials cost about $500 total, but I made sure I purchased everything on sale or with a coupon, though I did get a bit extra, enough that I can make a smaller one, or probably some Kigurumi to keep warm in the upcoming winter. The biggest cost was the poly-fil. It's normally $100 for 20 pounds, and there is about 120 pounds in the plush. Those were bought on a 60% off sale. Joann Fabrics does put it on sale regularly (in fact they have one now, but it ends today), as well as on the fleece. I picked some more up for a few smaller projects I intend on building and selling to recoup the cost of BLK.
Yeah, I saw that later. Dang, that's a lot of money to have spent on materials. But I'm sure it'll be very useful too.
Sounds like Poly-fil is basically a Polyester Fiber or fabric. It's a good thing you found it on sale in the quantities you needed.
Polyester has a surprisingly broad range of usages, so it's potential properties as a plush filler sound fitting enough. What properties in this case differentiate it from Cotton?
Anyways, Good luck on your new business venture to make back what you lost!

First and foremost it weighs less than cotton by volume (and costs less from what I've seen). Polyester (which the fleece is also made of) is also stronger and can be cleaned easier. It doesn't absorb liquids either which would be a pain. That said, it is a little less breathable, so it would be quite hot to lay on in the summer without air conditioning.
I've been a Godzilla fan for a long time. I always wanted a Godzilla suit. In 1982 I had the local theatre costume department make one for me. It was lighter than the original, but similar in design, in that it was foam rubber, with latex over the top. The base was a pair of overalls. I took it to a Star Trek con in 1983, and got entered into a 'Galactic Pet Show'. I won the first prize!
