The image that most conjure when thinking of vampires is that of an old, malicious being with contempt for daylight, mortals, and religious idols. But that simply was not the case for Ophelia. Her turning was voluntary, and with a mix of good intentions and self-interest. For nearly three hundred years had she been keeper of a small town's old keep, but not as a shadow that crept into homes in the night. She was the baroness of their business and figurehead of the township of Rosewood. Tributes to her ladyship were of bounties of the most striking crimson roses in all the kingdoms. She had a playful side that often scared outsiders or infrequent tradesmen, but the townsfolk had not a mind to drive a stake into her heart or invoke holy ritual to dispel her, as she wasn't the vampire that most imagined. If she had a pulse her heart would beat at the view of the subjects she represented to the outsiders from all the lands. But try for one moment to disrupt her corner of the world, and you'd wish she was as quick in your demise as any vampire in a cave.
