mmm.... it's a great game. just doesn't last for years. it lacks content because WoW was ultra popular and other mmos couldn't get much population. DDO suffered and basically went bankrupt, so they weren't really able to develop it as they planned for a long time. a lot of stuff coming out for it now, though: F2P brought a huge revenue increase.
yeah i'm not a huge wow fan, but i'll play occasionally because that's what all my friends play. for some reason i think that they'll play with me! then i log on with my lowbies from back when the lvl cap was 60 and they all are busy killing the lich king and ... yeah.
how are the quests? im so tired of 'bring me ten raptor fangs' quests and hunting fangless raptors.

quests in DDO actually involve doing things. it's never as simple as "hither thither yon! .. and bring me back body parts!" if you're given a quest to kill something, be assured that you will be crawling around in a dungeon solving puzzles to get to the creature. basically, all of DDO takes place in instanced, party-oriented dungeons and most of them involved puzzles and especially traps.
the mazes are quite dangerous, and there's multiple difficulty levels to set your instance on before your party goes in. your spell points and hit points do not regenerate, you must find a designated rest place (shrines) to rest at, and consumables for recovery and utility are extremely important (use magic device is one of the most powerful abilities in the game!). combat is fast and furious, indeed, but running around without a well-thought-out plan is a great way to get yourself killed. a self-sufficient character is a powerful character, and there's pretty much no cookie-cutter builds if you're smart about it.
a properly prepared character can solo anything, but don't try to until you really know what you're doing! i'm also pleased to report that the economy of the game has aged extremely well, and any perception of inflation you will have at first is quickly remedied when you figure out where to get cash.

oh no no no, it's 3.5 rules with a few modifications to fit the format of your screen ;-D eberron campaign setting, with the spell point system as described in unearthed arcana
the guilds are actually extremely strong, that i saw. far more effective and worth being in than the guilds in any other mmo which are basically just chat channels.

I prefer PFC Meepo.
