The outside is deteriorating, no lights are on, it seems that no one is there. For you, you poor sap, that is a terrible assumption to make. For the serpent waiting inside, you are her prey... one of many before you. The creaking house hides the sounds of her gurgling belly, and as she waits patiently, overhearing the conversation of the individuals awaiting outside the house on Halloween night... she is delighted to have something else to eat.
