Of course I was gonna use Wyatt for this one x3
FongU is invited to a halloween Dungeons and Dragons session by Wyatt, who decides to help him get a little bit more in-character when his character is controlled by a mind flayer.
Wyatt cleared his throat, putting on a dramatic, over-the top voice. “As you enter the dark, damnable lair, you see a tall figure, cloaked in shadow, reciting ancient scriptures in an even more ancient tongue. They don’t see you yet, what do you do?”
Gahwor, Codex, and Fong sat on the other side of the table, looking at the marked-up grid Wyatt had set out and looking at their character sheets. When Wyatt asked them if they wanted to have a halloween D&D session, no one expected that he’d go as hard as he did. He re-decorated his entire apartment, and even chose to dress in a costume, wearing a large robe and a witch’s hat.
Codex, a robot bearing a resemblance to a lizard, raised one finger and emitted a little beep. “UNIT would like to yell out to the individual and ask them politely for their name-” but before he could finish, Gahwor, a tall grey sergal, talked over him. “Hey, hey! Last time you did that, my fighter got shot up by kobold archers!”
Wyatt simply grinned with malice as he said, “Nope, Codex already said it!”, which prompted groans of exasperation from Gahwor, and an amused chuckle from Fong, the large, muscular tiger.
Codex, however, simply let out a happy ping. “Hello there! I, UNIT Codex, humbly request your name and occupation!” Wyatt smirked, before slipping back into the dramatic voice. “The individual turns to face the party, and they drop their thick, black robes, revealing the tentacled face of a Mind Flayer! Roll initiative.”
Fong let out a sigh and reached for the dice. Giving them a good shake, the tiger rolled a 17 for initiative, which caused him to flash a toothy grin. Gahwor ended up rolling a 7, and though he rolled his eyes, the sergal opted to hold his tongue. Codex rolled a 16, and emitted a few happy-sounding beeps.
Wyatt wrote down those results and, with a flourish, rolled for the Mind Flayer, and got a 19. “Oof, tough luck. Looks like he’s going first~” he said with malicious glee, possessed by the destructive spirit that resides within every GM.
Fong sighed, slouching in his seat. “Alright..So, what are they going to do?”
Wyatt responded by snapping his fingers and leaning forward in his seat. “Hehehe, I’m glad you asked, Fong. Mind flayer #1 is gonna cast Dominate Monster on you. Make a wisdom save for me!”
Fong rolled the d20. His tabaxi barbarian didn’t have the best wisdom, and his roll of 10 wasn’t good enough. “Ok, Fong, listen closely.” Wyatt said with a wide grin as his 3 eyes began to emit an eerie glow. “Your barbarian feels a warm, powerful presence slip through the cracks of his weak mind. The illithid’s psychic power easily breaks down your will, and it feels oh-so-good to just surrender to your new master.”
As Wyatt described what Fong’s barbarian was going through, Fong himself felt a similar presence intruding on his thoughts. He rubbed at his forehead, realizing far too late that Wyatt was using his own psionics to slip into his mind. Before Fong could confront Wyatt about what he was doing, the words melted in his mouth before he could say them. As his thoughts took a backseat to the foreign impulses flickering across his mind, Fong fell limp. Vaguely, he began to feel himself smile mindlessly, and speak words that weren’t his own, and it all felt wonderful.
To the others, Fong’s eyes began to glow a bright yellow as he went limp and relaxed in his chair, tongue hanging out of his mouth. He spoke in a monotone drone, occasionally stammering as Fong weakly tried to resist. “My life f-for..my illithid masters, they have shown me the light..”
Gahwor and Codex looked at the buff tiger with confusion clear on their face.. “U-Uhhh...Fong, are you ok, bud?” the sergal asked, waving his hand in front of Fong's face, who didn't seem to respond whatsoever. Wyatt simply waved his hand dismissively and chuckled. “Don’t you worry, I’m helping him get in character. I’ll feed him the lines he needs, he can take a bit to relax.”
Codex and Gahwor exchanged confused glances, but Gahwor just shook his head. It was impossible to dissuade Wyatt when it came to this stuff, and the sergal had been used enough for coffee-making and dish-cleaning in the past to know that Fong was in no danger.
“Alright, Fong!” Wyatt clapped his hands. “The mind flayers order you to destroy your former friends. I think you will obey them, won’t you?” The blank, drooling tiger slowly nodded his head. “I serve the illithids, the true gods of this world..” he mumbled, a zonked-out smile spreading across his face as he rolled the dice. Fong’s barbarian landed a critical hit on Codex’s wizard with his battleaxe, and Wyatt, levitating the dice and throwing them with his telekinesis, rolled the damage.
Codex simply raised a hand. “UNIT’s character is in immense danger, isn’t it?”
The smug lynx simply smirked, and handed Codex a new character sheet. “You’ll need that soon, I’d start filling it out~.”
