Here's the mock-up cover for the upcoming first issue of Caterwaul, which will be available from Angry Viking Press later this summer. The logo and text was done in Photoshop, but all the artwork was done by hand using Prismacolor markers and pencils. I'll have to tweak the brightness and sharpness levels, since there's actually quite a bit of detail that was lost in the scanning process. I had to scan this thing in two pieces and reassemble it in Photoshop, since it's about 11 X 17 inches in size!
This is pretty much the full crew until the second story (issue 4). Starting at the upper left of the picture (and going clockwise) are the following members: Veronika Eva Vonderschmidt, Marie Queneau, Dinah Auger, Tiffany Brookes, Tamara Jolsen, Detective Leandra Cassel, Crystal Vaughn, Detective Frank Stone, and Leila Martins.
Of course, according to certain mouth-breathing members of the internet chan culture, I've never improved or changed my style in 15 years.
Yeeeaaahhh...okay.
EDIT: Replaced previous file with updated logo image file.

The one I'm leaning towards now actually has a good "crime noir" feel to it. It looks kinda like roughed up, pounded metal, maybe iron, and it's chipped and broken up in a few places. I might upload the revised logo with the cover later on; might even replace the existing image with it.
Yeah, she's a vampire bat. In the original comic, I didn't have her appear until the end of issue five, which sorta screwed up the flow of the story. So this time around, she's appearing with Frank from the very first issue.
I'd actually written a story featuring just her and Frank a few years ago. It was a murder-mystery thing, but it was never slated to be turned into a comic.

makes me wonder WHY you even listen to those in the chans. there just there to piss artists off. its what they do with bernal, the more he rants he does'nt want it posted, the more they post it, just to irk him. now, i think they look better in there old style, but this new style is fine also ^^ look forward to the return of this comic!
Oh, hell, I stopped going to chan boards at the start of this year! But every now and then someone will send me a note or a link or a screencap of some discussion folks are having about me. I usually laugh pretty hard, since 99% of their crap is pure speculation and/or fabrication. "Never changed his style or improved his work in 15 years" is a stellar example.
But there's nothing they can do to get the new work I have planned for the future. Kinda hard to get a copy of something to illegally scan it when the only version you can see is the one the artist decides to post online, huh?
See, there really is a way to beat piracy! Just gotta think low-tech, man!

Oh, I can understand their confusion, especially with the older work. One, no picture has ever been posted of her online, so they have no way to Google up any images of her. And two, I inked most of her old parody work. So, yeah, the inking styles in those old pictures look the same as my inks because they were all inked by the same person!
Well the rumor is so well spread that it even made it to wikifur:
http://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Jim_Hardiman
A rumor has been thoroughly pushed around and discussed that "Desiree Lee" is in fact fictional, and merely an alter-ego of Jim Hardiman himself. Various pieces of evidence have been put forth to support this view such as:
Virtually indistinguishable art styles, even taking into account the claims that Jim trained her.
Desiree's enraged reactions to being accused to of not being real, which she responds to by threatening to post some bit of personal information to confirm her identity, which never comes to being as Jim "handily shows up to calm her down" and "talk her out of it."
This allegation has slowly been propagated over the years through forums, mailing lists, and lately, throught image boards such as 4chan, Onechan or Sidechan, but it has never been adequately proved and/or refuted.
Its funny how they call that "evidence".

Actually, it's pathetic. They seem to use the same logic model that religious nutjobs use. There's mountains of scientific data pointing to the fact that all religions are similar and borrow from one another, and they are all fabricated, yet these people will disregard any and all proof to continue with their beliefs.

No way will I have it to you by then. I still have a few pages left to complete, as well as scaling everything down, scanning them, and then adding all the text and word balloons.
Even with my current "regular" workload, I should have it all finished by mid- to late-June.

Damn! I hit the "Enter" button instead of the "Shift" button X_x
Any way like I said I sure miss the old cartoon style because of all the crazy sexy antics the Skunk gals got into but your new style is more realistic and though I miss the old ways, like gas at $1.00 a gallon and a Soda was only 25 cents and the fandom was about funny and some time sexy critters and not bizarre sexual fetishes time moves on so the past is the past and no one not even Anubis can change it.
So I miss the old but really look forward to the new because you take them from cartoon to reality and I like reality.

The book won't be ready for AC, unfortunately. Complications with a stent replacement surgery in February ended up messing me up for about 2 months, and all my regular work got pushed back as a result. I've been working long days to get all that stuff caught up, as well as work on completing the Caterwaul book. The end is within sight!
And yeah, I know about the incisors. I consciously changed a lot of the dental work, since these critters have to have a few similarities despite being different species at their roots. Canines are more specific to each breed, as is the jaw shape and most of the teeth behind the canines. But the front ones are usually a mixture of animal and human-styled teeth.
Good eye, though! Here, have a cookie. You've earned it...

I have a taxidermist's wolverine "jaw set" which I use as an art reference. After studying it I realized the similarity of carnivore dental formulas. I can understand why you changed the wolverine femme's a bit, for variety that is.
Incisor numbers is one of the few things I nitpick about when I look at others' work. The last time I mentioned it the artist got pretty annoyed, but I seem compelled to keep pointing it out.

Total slave drivers, man. You know why it's taking me so long to draw this stuff nowadays? It's because they cut off one of my arms! They also make you sit in a metal chair with a hand grenade welded to it, so you only have about 7 seconds to get up and use the bathroom. It's brutal, man.
Just kidding. They seem pretty cool. Honestly, I'm still sorta in the pre-comic stage, since I don't have anything out yet. But check with Shawntae Howard :ebonyleopard: since he has done work for/with them. They strike me as honest folks who won't do the same shit certain other unnamed companies may have done in the past...

People say you've never changed your style? Weird...
I was wondering, since scanners take away a lot of picture detail (at least my ancient one does.)
Have you tried using a camera? My brother got one recently, about seventy dollars, with twelve mexapixels, it gives an amazing quality photo. (So much so I've been substituting it for my scanner ever since.)
They kind of cost a lot, but it could possibly be worth it if you don't want to have to touch things up on the computer afterwards.
Also, amazing job on the cover, and I have one question... would you ever consider drawing a Caterwaul poster?
I only ask because I think it would be something cool to have.

It's sort of live Kevlar, I guess. A ballistics-protection uniform (similar to what is used by their country's military forces) that has a diamond-weave pattern. The suits utilize an internal cooling system, which is powered by a small unit worn along the belt. It keeps the internal temperatures normal (since a critter covered in fur would quickly overheat if wearing clothing like this).
Technically, there are a lot more characters in Caterwaul than shown here. You've got the maintenance crew, research and development, armory, etcetera. As for mice, well, the fellow who runs the legitimate business while Crystal is on missions is a mouse
There are a few guys that Crystal likes (especially Detective Stone, who is actually engaged to another avian), but it can be tricky to have a relationship when you work a job that may need you to leave at a moment's notice.

Well, there's another one of Veronika here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7404599/
