I get the feeling Dr. Dire's reprogramming runs deeper than that, but perhaps the mask feeds a constant stream of stuff to his brain as a redundancy measure? Without it, it might be possible to knock some sense into him. He prides himself on his fiercely independent will after all, there's gotta be a part of that still in there somewhere...
Oh I know it runs deeper...the mask though is the first thing to go of course....after its ripped off I figure a few hours with Blaze will cause his programming to fizzle due to the constant stream of stuff Blaze will spout...then subsequent sessions with Leo might be in order. :P
