Red-bellied lemur (Eulemur rubriventer)

Male red-bellied lemurs have a noticeable scent gland on top of their head!
This gives them that recognizable greaser hairstyle appearance.
Scent marking and chemical communication are important in marking territories and
to fulfil some role in reproductive behavior! Scent marking allows lemurs to communicate
if a female is fertile, pregnancy terms, preventing inbreeding, illnesses, territory boundaries, etc.
Male fork-marked lemurs use vocalizations to claim territory,
but do have a large scent-gland on their throat! Scent-marking only occurs
through social grooming between monogamous pairs and their infants.
