So I ran across this article about Chuck Jones and the challenge of adapting Rikki-Tikki-Tavi to a half-hour animated special: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article.....kki-tikki-tavi
Here, then is a copy of one of the studies Chuck Jones did about how to adapt a real mongoose into something that's lively as a cartoon, before he decided, ``Eh, what the heck, let's just draw it like the Much Ado About Nutting squirrel was also the Grinch''. To fit the tone of Jones's studies, though, I drew this with the simulated pencils rather than finishing it off in pens and I like the way that came out. I should do some more with simulated chalk and other less precise tools because a rough shape can look so very alive.
The Mental Floss article says how it was posted in May 2015, and updated May 2020, and does not say just what error they found that needed fixing five years on. I don't want to discourage them correcting stuff that needs correction, but they've got me wondering what late-breaking Rikki-Tikki-Tavi research came across their desks.
