The Mario games are the dreams of an Italian plumber who was poisoned by his beautiful wife (who's cheating on him with a big, burly, red-headed man) with hallucinogens mixed into his favourite plate of spaghetti with meatballs and mushrooms. His wife had been constantly unavailable, always in another house for her supposed job he's back from work, so he often talked to his pet lizard about his twin brother, who died at a young age.
