The Newborn isles is a group of volcanic islands that emerged some 300-400 years ago.
And where the first dwellers arriving banded together to create a loose federation.
However, even with a somewhat ruling government and independence,
the bigger nations from the mainland are always scheming to gain more and more control of either-
territory, trade routes and exclusive deals etc. And in general, dominance.
This "pulling of the of the middle child" so to say, results in changing of ownership of the some parts of the islands from time to time.
Trade-representative flags are not canon.

Hmm,
my guess would be that the ruling island government would lay claim to whatever landed.
And then the different trade nations would attempt to get ownership of some of it as well through guile, politic and contracts.
If however, it made a really big mess,
the trade nations would of course dissociate themselves for most of the damage and repair costs. And again, rely on their contracts etc, and say something like:
" Of course we would like to help, but you are after all a mostly independent rule, and therfore we can´t provide with all the help we COULD give,
as it clearly says in our contract...We are sorry"

His parents were looking for a way to raise their family away from the enclave and it´s rules and practices.
Fortunately for them, the enclave conducted an experiment to expand their race, by sending groups EXTRA far away, to try and establish a foothold.
So, the enclave got in contact with a private tradeship owner, to ferry a number of yinglets to different ports around the world.
But, the experiment got canceled, and this is the last group to have been shipped, so to say.
