Usually any time between March & November. Often, but not always, when the weather was supposed to be good.
When I was younger sometimes there'd be a December or January visit.
And whenever possible I'd try to turn up when the sun was highlighting the front of the stones.
Most of the time that meant "west=show up noonish".
