The terms mean the same thing. You can't mistake synonyms. Because they're so similar. When you go on a date; regardless of pretext, you have agreed to hang out and get to know someone.

they do not: first is more broad - with 'friends' and 'love interest', but second one - to 'love interest' only..

I already said, they were already dating so there is no way that they aren't getting to know each other. And dating doesnt have to be serious or romantic. My straight coworker whose girlfriend also worked with us, incited me on a date. Literally how he worded it. Because if a straight guy can see a date as a non romantic venture, it proves it isnt inherently one. Aka you didnt need this whole strip.

Also, on an unrelated note, I'm sorry that you had to deal with somebody like Crossfur.
The guy does not know how to give nor receive criticism for expressing his opinions and forces everyone to see his point of view.
People are telling him why he's wrong and he's just not seeing it or refuses to see it. Also he refuses to elaborate on why he said such things.
And if he was paying attention to the story and trying to apply his so-called realistic logic to the situation, you just don't get over your social anxiety just because you're dating a person. It takes time to get over it and build more of a connection. Plus, Blake is a meek and nervous character that's still going through his own character arc.
