Albert Alligator and Li'l Pup-Dog, 14 November 2020
Redrawing of a panel from the Pogo of 3 June 1950. Albert's just rescued the Li'l Pup-Dog from Deacon Mushrat, and vice-versa. It's feeding in to the (first) Disappearance of the Pup Dog, some of Walt Kelly's most direct attack on McCarthyism.
In Ten Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Years With Pogo Walt Kelly mentions the idea of the Pup Dog and his coming to peril came from Tommy Thompson, ``now [ in 1959 ] head of King Features Syndicate, a rival team'' and that caught my eye since in 1961 Nicholas P Dallis would start his third soap-opera comic strip, Apartment 3-G, with one of the character Abigail ``Tommie'' Thompson. Apartment 3-G was initially distributed by the Hall Syndicate (as was Pogo), but it's not like these folks didn't know each other, apparently.
