A pretty late piece for
that had a wee curse, as in I kept having bumbles, or in once case bumped my art table with my butt vacuuming and my ink bottle fell on it =v=;;
This is all in gouache paint. It is the weighing of the feather, but I thought it would be cute to have Circe giving her stuffed turkey friend to anubis. One, feather wit, second, you do give offerings of all that is pure and good so <3
I took the time to learn basic hieroglyphics and the grammar as a language (but lazy) dork with pride. So it actually does mean something. The top is a typical offering formula but it was still confusing to find the various parts to change a few parts to it... so it is more a generic offering prayer. It was hard to find academic (and free) sources that were not for children/inaccurate translators. I had to use way back machine to load up web-chain days free sources of back when learning was a share thing.
it says "an offering that the king (because I didn't find a lady term) gives to osiris, the lord of the west of ta-netjer, the lord abydos. 1000 invocation offerings, bulls and birds and every good and pure thing on behalf of the one who is venerable with anubis, who is up on his mountain, the royal seal bearer, the sole friend of the king, the overseer of the royal audience room, and some person's name true of voice." ( which is a typical prayer)
The bottom part was my attempt at grammar. "behold I am here, mistress of the heavens (female cat) true of voice to do any task that is done in the underworld (to give a bird/turkey) beloved of."

Thanks :)
I wanted to order it, and almost did but I have a lot of watercolor paper so I was like now now, hold your horses... I have made it before in a paper making course. I also have a family dress and a shirt passed down made from woven strands of pineapple reeds I think. Textile dork paper hoarding is a problem, but also fabrics XD
I liked painting the hieroglyphics but I didn't do them stroke wise correctly. I did actually do a full video lesson on it, because >.> why not rabbit hole. I mean I took Latin in high school for the same extra artist dork reasons.

I grabbed them for cheap from an egyptian guy, actually aegyptologist, who travels german flea markets selling paintings after original temple paintings and handcrafted/painted sculptures after originals found in graves and temples. I wonder if he's fluid enough with hieroghlyphs to be a teacher. :)
It's adorable!
You probably could have gotten away with the hieroglyphs being nonsense; scribes themselves were often illiterate so surviving copies of the Book of the Dead are filled with broken, incomplete, and mixed up fragments of spells and prayers. They copied from one document to another without understanding what they were writing.

Yeah it was slowly after many months making sense to detect words, and where they were to be, but then there was the whole aesthetics thing where parts would be moved so it looks nicer....not helpful lol. Thankfully there were a lot of old angelfire days sites with explanations, breakdowns, and lessons...but I totally get why most people do not bother. IT is a lot of hassle. Even the new google ai learning hieroglyphics tool was essentially just doing literal alphabet.
Thanks I am glad people like it do far, I was going for cute/ sweet :>
