Oh look, it's Diddy Kong. :O And...actual fan art that's not Reign? This feels new to me all over again.
Found an old rough Paintchat sketch I did last year of Diddy Kong sitting around my computer. Had sketched it, inked it, and flat-colored it...but I never knew what else to do with it. So for the past two days and nights I cleaned it up a bit, threw down some shading, and a background to go with it.
Why Diddy Kong? Don't know why really; just like the mischievous simian...he's cool. Always loved his games particularly Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong Country. Rarely draw him because he's a beast to draw...but it worked out sort of okay I guess. This particular version of him was inspired by former NSider and a cool friend of mine Cammiluna's past renditions of Diddy. She drew him a bit older once with different clothing ( http://i41.tinypic.com/o7sro2.jpg ) and another time for me when I asked if she'd draw him again sort of the same way ( http://i39.tinypic.com/23uxx8w.png ). So in tribute to her, I decided to try my own hand at a more serious version of Diddy Kong than the last time I drew 'em. It's sketchy and a bit rough...solid colors...kind of has a subtler Yoshi's Island vibe combined with a Sonic-type aesthetic...of which none were intentional but that's just how this one turned out. Diddy looks slightly younger here kinda thinkin' than the way Cammi drew him...maybe like 15-ish when the other one looked more like 17 or so. :shrug: Gave 'em an open collared shirt, an earring, and a banana necklace...combined with his trademark star shirt underneath and his classic red hat. Just wanted to keep it simple, not too complicated, similar to those old-school "Western American"-type ads they used to have (and still do) for certain products like jeans or cars and such.
