Cannonically this is Hutt's primary mode of transportation... it just looks out of place on certain planets.
The canopy sliding forward is great for egress but it is kind of annoying in a tight parking lot, though let's be honest they were probably going too fast anyway.
Very based on the Skidbladnir from Code Lyoko (or what I remember of it 10 years later), except that there's actually a dedicated compartment in the back for Hutts' tail.
Actually I'm going to go off on that one: there are braces that move into place around his tail when the canopy closes, then they detect how fast and hard he's trying to wag his tail as a judge for how excited he is, and the computer increases the responsiveness of the controls accordingly.
The controls are two joysticks. Both move fore and aft, and side-to-side, the right stick can also twist and the left stick has a pinky-finger latch which allows the stick to turn horizontal. The right stick has a hat-switch whose function changes between flight modes. The left stick has a devious red button on top.
With the left stick vertical the vehicle behaves as a helicopter, with the left stick providing collective and yaw controls (there are no pedals). The right stick provides cyclic control with additional yaw on the twist (Saitek 290 style). The hat switch varies the azimuth and roll of the vehicle with no effect on the vector.
With the left stick horizontal the vehicle behaves as a VTOL jet, it can still hover but sluggishly and it cannot change altitude without pitching and moving. It also flies much faster and the red button activates the Type 6 FTL drive. The hat switch is used to navigate the sub-systems, there are also voice controls but not all species have vocal chords.
There's a fold-out extendable bar on the underside for attaching payloads or lifting people (with current pads so the rescuee can't let go like in that Iron Man movie).
There's also a slot behind the main panel which stores a removable navigation pad, both for using away from the vehicle and for lending to vehicles whose own navigation has failed.
Edit 10 Dec 21: The Xana logo has since been replaced with a diamond.
