I started this one quite a while ago, and I've been picking away at this project every now and then. I was looking at it again recently and what I have so far is so pretty that I wanted to share a WIP. Also with a close-up so you can really get a sense of the level of detail.
All of the clothing and jewelry bits are based on things I own, or wish I owned lol. If you look at my current profile ID you may recognize the boots!
I really enjoyed arranging the border elements too. I think I was actually channeling the opening credits of Totoro a bit there. X3 When I was laying out the pieces and angling them I was thinking of it as writing in some other language, which was a fun way to look at it. I also absolutely love experimenting with the dappled sunlight. Every time I turn that layer on I instantly feel more relaxed, like I'm actually under the shade of the trees after being out in bright sunlight.
I have to prioritize other projects right now, but I'll keep giving this one love when I can. I don't make enough art of my own characters.
