According to 'Dongguksesigi' (1849), Nallohoe (난로회 / 煖爐會) is a custom to going outside and roast beef during the cold winter. The beef was marinated with oil, soy sauce, egg, green onion, garlic and pepper. Then, using a brazier and griddle they roasted the beef and ate while sitting warm around it. The griddle used for Nallohoe is called Jeolliptu (전립투) which is shaped like an inverted cap. During the meat is cooked on the rim, the juice from the beef flowed down to the bottom part of the griddle. Then, vegetables are added to the beef juice to make a stew. Nallohoe started to become popular around the 18th century. Even king Jeongjo (re. 1776~1800) enjoyed it with the officials.
