Brewery: Rogue
Name: Chocolate Stout
Style: american stout
Origin: Oregon
Bottle: 1Pt. 6 Oz.
ABV: 5.8%
Appearance: a light defeating black with a dark coffee toned head.
Pours: fairly straightforward, a 1/3 inch head slowly blooming.
Smell: definite cocoa powder. Along with tobacco leaf, whiskey, vanilla and woodsy notes.
Taste: There’s prominent deep toned bitterness right up front like one would experience with an espresso or baker’s cocoa, along with a bold red wine/cocoa/nibs flavor all harmonizing simultaneously chill and mellow as well as bold as brass like a jazz-rock group grooving heavy on the bass and brass.
Mouthfeel: the bitterness and carbonation makes it dance over your tongue with a million tiny shiatsu massages in a Penkat Silat of of, something that starts with P that means culinary relaxation and revitalization.
Rating: 9.0 just like their double chocolate I sampled back in late January of this year. If you’re looking for a dark beer with a lively and forward but not overly aggressive bitterness this is a thoroughly delightful choice.

It sounds like they went with a chocolate malt and possibly a little something like coffee. I don't mind a bitter dark chocolate, but I definitely love a good sweet / milk stout when it comes to the chocolate. Especially that Flying Monkeys Triple Chocolate Manifesto from last year!
I'm glad that you enjoyed Rogue's beer, they can be a bit unique at times
See their Voodoo Doughnut Maple Bacon Ale for an example https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/p.....ile/132/72720/
