TwitterWhen animals considered to be "prey" by the apex predators of the world begin to band together for safety, where does it leave those caught in between?
Namely, a pair of pine martens, carnivores and flesh-eaters themselves, but small enough to be considered food for the bears, wolves and gluttons of the forest and field. They're on a journey to seek sanctuary with the rabbits, squirrels and other prey that have gathered to Oren--but they don't know if welcome or condemnation will meet them.

Hemlock wouldn't put any effort into training anybody since she wants to still feel like she's in control and empowered over any\everybody. It's also why she continuously holds onto the spear for dear life, a weapon which gives power over everybody since nobody really knows how to create them.
Umm Sprig you might be onto something there btw.
Why did Oren so fast allow Rask to be a member of Stone Hollow? He is old and knows that Hemlock is way too much of a loose cannon to make thought through decisions for the community.
So what better way to control her than add a predator into the mix to have her not the only one to have killed before. And as Martens are also prey to bigger predators he is just like her in danger of being eaten.

different sides and views, We know hemlock's reasons for doing and acting as she does, we feel bad for her, but we also feel for Rask, someone who lost everything, and even in a place deemed "safe" he still feels he is in danger. Calling Hemlock "Sick" to him could mean likely to cause more harm than good. He's not sure exactly what she could do but he feels it will not end well for him or the Hollow. The only thing that is really keeping her from killing Rask or Egg right now is Oren.
